Oil Painting Materials & Supplies List

An Oil Paint set is required.
We recommend Holbein’s Artist Oil set (12-colors) 10 ml tubes, or a comparable option of your choice.
The most affordable, minimalist approach—and one that is very suitable for the class consists of the following colors:
Cadmium Red (or comparable color)
Yellow Ochre
Ivory Black
Payne’s Gray
Titanium White

We recommend:
(1) Arches 9” x 12” Oil Paper Pad (12 sheets).
A more affordable, but suitable option is the Canson XL Oil and Acrylic pad, 9” x 12” (24 sheets).
Participants may also choose to paint on canvas or primed wood panels, but not on surfaces larger than 16” x 20”.
***Please remember that you must carry all of your supplies to and from the painting site. For this reason, the oil paper pad is preferred.

An assortment of oil painting brushes of your choosing, is required.
An affordable, but suitable option is: (3) Sumi-ink brushes: size 2, size 4, size 6.

Linseed Oil (8 oz.)

We recommend:
(1) bottle of Chelsea Studio Brush Cleaner (2 oz.)
***We will not use other solvents or mineral spirits while painting in the wilderness.

A double, large-mouth, Guerilla Painter palette cup for holding linseed oil, and solvent.

A white, palette, approx. 11” x 14”.
Participants may also choose to use a pad of palette paper as an alternative option.

A portable, lightweight easel large enough to accommodate a 9” x 12” pad of paper.

Faber-Castell-Pitt compressed charcoal sticks (3) medium.

Holbein Tape 1/2” 60ft.

We recommend having a tote bag to carry your supplies.

Depending on the season, and the projected weather, we recommend having the appropriate hat and other apparel.
